What fun interviews! You are so right — You can learn a lot about a person by watching how they treat people who have no power over them. If someone is arrogant, condescending, or mean to the staff or to random people on the street, then he/she simply is arrogant, condescending, and mean, regardless of how well they “put on a show” and act nice to you, while trying to impress you.
That’s great! Can’t wait for the next book. I really loved the first one. Keep up the good work. Any chance of a new post? I miss reading your work.
You know, I’m really happy for your success. You’re a fine writer, and from what I’ve read over the years, deserve the happiness.
That said, this blog went from being an interesting and fun read to a self promoting bore. I used to look forward to reading, now I’m not sure it’s worth the daily look anymore. I hope you get back to actually writing sometime soon- never forget your roots.

To those who complain about Steve not writing anymore should give the guy a break. Look what’s going on in his life, its amazing, he’s brought you all hours of entertainment with the stories on here so how about you let him enjoy the rewards for a bit.
He has stated previously that he will get back to writing on here again. I for one think that’s enough.
Well my picture of you in terms of the thousand mile stare and your cool as you saw into realities, made me think of a George Clooney to play your part if the movies happens. He’s subtle. I saw your pic when it came out and you look like a nice person, but you had an essence of presence which is so great. Someone strong and subtle has to convey the insights.
Why focus on comedic realities? What you write is profound and heroic I reckon.

I’ve been reading this blog for years and I have to say I absolutely love when the waiter writes his stories about anything – from his real life to waiter stories to fiction….
That said, although I am happy for the waiter, the daily self-promotion is becoming really really old and boring. It is nice to know what is happening with your life, but there also needs to be some new content interspersed with it all.
Maybe you could even make your stories section separate from all the interviews and TV stuff… or at least mix it up a little please.

i read your blog for about 3 years now on a regular basis, also read through all of your archives.
It’s a great piece of writing and entertainment.
However, sometime since the beginning this year it is lacking.
Lacking of postings that are worth reading.
Before you got your book published there always was a story to read every other week at least, sometimes even 2 or more.
But ever since the book came out all we find here on a regular basis are posts about interviews, TV shows and whatnot.
Don’t think for a minute you don’t deserve it or anyone is jealous. We are not – we are even proud of you to make all that happen and you very well deserve it too.
When i haven’t checked back at your site for the last 4 weeks i finally remembered to do so and thought that there probably at least where 2 articles to be found and some random interview story.
Wrong i was. 1 story and 1 note of an interview.
You see what is wrong with that picture? Before you would actually _write_ interesting _stories_ every now and then but that seems to be a rare occassion since your book came out.
Of course we all also know that you are going through some very stressful times and need some rest – but you also should think about your loyal readers that visit your blog to read some story from your life and not only short tidbits about interview in paper X and a show on channel Y.
I have no idea if you have access to some sort of statistics regarding hits to your website or not, but one statistic is to be seen from the public side very well: the number of comments on each of your blog posts are in a free fall, at the same time comments like this are seeming to become a majority.
You should be worried.
Because we are.

We miss you, Waiter/Steve.
Perhaps you can now write about the on goings of being a celebrity and how the lights are too bright and the make up is annoying and makes you sneeze or when you are in the “green room” the snacks are cheap or boring. Have you developed a list of the “goodies” you want in your room when doing interviews?… If they don’t supply them, you’re nobody yet.
Give us some stories about that and also….

great job on the interviews. I added a link to your blog on my blog . I have worked in the service industry many years (retired now) and many would be surprised at who tips well and who doesn’t. I like the idea of getting the information out on how to tip and a good rule of thumb on how much to tip, and on getting to know the workers where you frequent. As far as respect one should be respectful of everyone. yelling at someone to bring you something while they are delivering food or taking an order at another is not respectful even if your a longstanding customer. have known bartenders that poured extra heavy to those they don’t like so they would fall down or get sick. Attitudes on both sides differ in smaller towns. looking forward to more of your work.

Nevermind the naysayers, well-intentioned though they may be. Great personal blogs are dynamic and organic, not static moments in time, and the best pull readers along in whatever direction life moves in. Those of us who appreciate good storytelling will happily wait until the wallop of post-book brain-drain has passed.
Thanks to all of you readers who agreed with me. I posted the same thing in the previous entry (that I’m tired of reading about all this self-promotion), and some poor little sycophant waiter-fan claimed that anyone who criticizes him must not have ever accomplished anything.
We’re just doing our job as readers to a waiter who apparently still sees value in keeping one. If he bores us, we should let him know.
