Doing The Today Show was a blast, Thanks to Matt Lauer and all the staff for making it a great experience!
I’m also going to be on Neil Cavuto’s “Your World” show on Fox at roughly 4:20 PM today! Tune in!

uh oh Waiter has gone big time already! damn i need a PR staff too =(
I was flipping through the Readers Digest that just arrived and lo and behold! They had “13 Things The Waiter Won’t Tell You”… I read through and who were they quoting? None but my favorite waiter!
It made my day. :o)
Thank you for your work. As a server, I hope that your writing touches as many people as possible. Guests deserve respect, but so do we. And you Waiter, have my utter, and total respect.
Any plans for a touring book signing?
You earned it, dude. Congratulations.
I have been reading the blog for two years and love it. I come here every day to see if you have updated. First thing this morning I ran out and bought your book. I’m only one chapter 5 but I can’t put it down, I love it so much. Great work…thanks for the blog and the book.
Who do I contact if I want to take you out to dinner or buy you a drink? Love that pic in the Post! 😉
In case you haven’t heard it from somewhere else, they were discussing your book on “The View” this morning. Actually, they mentioned your book and then talked about their own tipping habits.
The comments at the NY Post seem to be…oddly angry.
Check it out! You’re in the weeds! Yay!!!
what a terrible problem to have! 😉
Your book is on order and I should have it tomorrow. Saw your interview in the Boston Globe and loved it. I was going to get it anyway but that sealed the deal. The interviews may be tiresome after a while but will payoff big time. Love your work.
Best of Luck!!!
I have people! They’re all medical, but they are my people! 😀
I just ran across your blog. I’ve been a server the past 12 years. All I can say is –good for you!!! Your honest sense of humor from a servers perspective is something all of us in the service industry have been holding in for years. I can relate to each and every story told that I have read so far.
I’ve had it with my job and am changing professions. I’m going to take care of mentally challenged. Oh wait—isn’t that what I’ve been doing for the past 12 years?!?! The only change is that my new job will come away with rewards other than money.
kathie lee and hoda mentioned you on the today show this morning! they said they wanted to have you on 😀 hope eto see you there soon!!
sniff sniff…….I’ll never get my interview thingy with you……
Congratulations on your success Waiter, I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years now and it’s the best thing on the net other than porn! It’s nice to see that your ambition has been realised.
Waiter! I got the last copy of your book yesterday at Barnes & Noble. Very happy I was 🙂
Oh, now i know why i didnt get any reply for you when i wrote an article on tipping… You are a celebrity now 🙂
No offense, I am glad you are doing fine and wish you great sales of your book, you deserve the success
waiter, you rock my sox off. You are pretty cute too, not gonna lie!
I can not wait to read your book, unfortunately I still have a week til I can get it (i am currently in Hong Kong and dont get back into the states til then) I hope it becomes a best seller!
Heyy Waiter… I hate to admit I watch THE INSIDER, but I caught the teaser for tomorrow’s show and you’re book’s in it. Its for a segment about which stars tip most/least! WOW, THE INSIDER..hehehe
I can’t wait to read your book! You were mentioned on The View yesterday!!
Congratulations Waiter! We’re all so excited for you!!! Start keeping an eye out for those paparazzi!
Congratulations Waiter!! It’s nice to finally put and name and a face with The Waiter :o) I’ll be buying a copy of your book this afternoon! Can’t wait!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to read it! As an ex cocktail waitress/food server I can so relate with many of your stories. Maybe now customers will get a clue…yea right, wishful thinking 🙂
Meh. Enjoy it while you can, and invest well. It’s kind of like a one trick pony isn’t it?
I saw you on The Today Show this morning! I was just about the leave for work when the segment came on. I hadn’t checked your blog recently so I’m so glad I didn’t miss it! It was great to finally put a face to the persona you have on here. I can’t wait to read your book now that it’s out. It’s on my must-buy list for this weekend. 🙂
Steve You were great on the Today show this morning. Congrats to you! I intended to take the train into the city for your book signing but I had to work. But that didn’t stop me from stopping at the local Borders and buying your book. Just regret I didn’t get to meet you in person and have you sign my book. Can’t put the book down. Thanks for all the enjoyable reading!
Just watched it online–you looked great and wow, so composed–maybe there’s a TV show in YOUR future!
I’ve been reading Waiter Rant for two years now, and I am so happy for your success! I have to admit I was very excited to be able to put a face with your writing.
congratulations! i waited tables on and off for a decade, and your blog just makes me miss the madness and endless psychoanalyzing of crazy people at every table. long live flatulence!
foxnews suck your degrading yourself man
I just caught your appearance on FOX and I thought it went swimmingly. And the lady wasn’t as spit crazy as Matt this morning. You must feel great knowing your shift days are over. I’ll be keeping an eye on the NYT best sellers list. Way to go Waiter, ah… I mean Steve.
Just saw you on Fox News, good piece. I have deivered pizzas for a major company for 13 years and we get our share of stiffs, except we also have to burn our gasoline to take people food they are too lazy to at least go and pick up their dinner. While I would never alter anyone’s order in any way, let me offer this. If you do not tip the driver, do not expect good service, we know who you are, and if you come up as part of a multiple delivery you will get the delivery that you don’t pay for.
PS Don’t forget Gas costs $4.00 per gallon these days. It costs BIG TIME to bring you food.
I must say, when I saw the cover of your book on a commercial for some paparazzi show, I gave a whoop and felt a personal connection with the Author, “MY Waiter” was getting great PR! I’m willing to bet many of your daily readers felt like a personal pal was getting his public due.
congrats! congrats! congrats!
And Thank You!
just watched u on Fox News out here in LA… looked good, sounded great, congratulations!
cute!
Here’s a link to the Fox News interview.
I can see that the skills you honed being a good waiter will serve you well dealing with the press. So far in the two TV clips I’ve seen so far, you’ve succeeded in making the interviewers look so clever even though it was pretty clear to me that they hadn’t really read the book or the blog. The WNYC interview was great.
Enjoy this! You’re good at it!

Saw you on Neil Cuvoto — I think you were convorting with the enemy! 🙂
and you looked JUST like I imagined you would!
Congrats STEVE
Congrats Steve! Been reading the blog for quite a while now and am definitely going to buy the book. You did very well on the Today Show. Wishing you all the best!
Congrats again Steve [you’ll always be “Waiter” for me]. I hope your book sells a zillion copies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Hope to read more from you soon.
All the Best,
Nik
I forgot to mention, PLEASE let us know when [if?] you get back and bust Willem’s balls–I’d LOVE to hear about it 🙂
I just ordered your book from Amazon [yes, I used your waiterrant.net link]–I can’t wait to get it!
All the Best,
Steve buddy!
when are you gonna go international? your fans in australia don’t really get much access to all your interviews…hope they all go well, kick some interviewer arse mate (yes, we spell it arse not ass)
Yours is the first book I’ve bought brand new, full price, in years. (Yeah I know I’m a cheapskate).
STEEEVVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Loved it! WONDERFUL! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go, STEVE! You DID it, man. Hats off. Seriously.
Nice review in the Wall Street Journal, Steve:

I enjoyed your appearance on the Today Show, but I was disappointed that you didn’t demonstrate the Thousand Yard Waiter Stare, but perhaps it’s best that you didn’t, it might have unnerved the entire viewing public. 😉
Congratulations, again!
You were great!! Go Waiter!
I just finished your book. Read it when I wasn’t working. Amazing to me… parts of it made me cray. I like the sensitive type waiter guy. Great read! Hope you do well!
Arghhhhh! I missed both the NBC and Fox appearances by 30 minutes!
Waiter, Steve, you’re blowin’ up man!
I’m glad you have arrived at last and are out of the “biz”. It gets to everyone at some point. Now you’re like D List celebrity, same as Kathy Griffin (I kid, I’d never put equate you with such a stuck up), but don’t let it get to your head. Stay real buddy. Long time reader and forever fan. Wish ya the best with everything! Maybe you’ll get a reality TV series! OK, enough of my jealousy. I’m real happy for ya though, and I wish you much success in your endeavors.
Oh and Fox News is the worst network ever. Remember the Obama fist bump fiasco. Oh noez, the Muslim presidential candidate and his wife are terrorists, and so is Rachel Ray’s scarf! Bill O’Reilly, etc…don’t get me started. But publicity’s publicity. Book sales will soar.
Steve, can you please upload the videos on Youtube as you go along? Thanks!
Congrats! I hope you gain much satisfaction out of whatever life may bring you next!
And just let me reiterate my request that you come over to the UK (and not just London, either!). As I said before, Glasgow can be very lovely this time of year…
WAITER! LOVE seeing you on TV — you deserve everything and i’m so happy for you 🙂 can’t wait to get the book!!
Dude I saw you on tv! I remember reading your blog when you first started! Congrats! you are a cutie too!
I’ve always loved reading your blogs and I can’t tell you how exciting it is to buy your book, see you on television, and watch all the success that has come from this! Congrats and thank you for having the guts to go out and support all the waiters like us!
Awesome!!! I just watched you & Matt online. I take back what I said yesterday about media. Matt was just right and so were you. Enjoy every bit of this–can’t wait to get the book and selfishly, I’m hoping you’re able to keep up the blog. Now that you’re a writer you should write….on the blog….every damn day.
You were great on The Today Show yesterday. You were poised and very classy. I’ve been watching you whenever I can. I only have one complaint. I don’t like how the press seems to push the bad behavior of waiters instead of showing what asses customers can be. Your best revenge is usually verbal but they make it seem otherwise.
Best of luck. I’m enjoying your success.
@Jo “I’m willing to bet many of your daily readers felt like a personal pal was getting his public due.”
Damn right. Funny isn’t it? I find myself talking about “my waiter blog” in the office!
Saw you on the Today show so great to finally put a face to the blog . Congrats!!!!
I think every “foodie” has frymax in their blood. Since I’ve retired from the hosptality business I’ve gotten my “fix” by reading your blog. Saw you on “Today” and enjoyed putting a face to the words. Much success and congrats.
You obviously have never worked in a high class restaurant. The places you talk about where these things happen should be shut down. You give every person who waits tables to pay the bills a bad name. The guests are not there for you. You are there for them and to give them an experience. So what if you have to repeat the specials? Maybe you shouldn’t have a 10 table section. And passing gas at a table? Get a life
Honey, this is going so well for you, you’ll *never* need to wait tables again.
Feels good, huh? 😉
Hey Waiter,
I was chatting with a cashier this morning while buying my microwavable lunch and dinners for the weekend and we started chatting about your blog. She jokingly suggested that we should start our own blog/book full of mishaps after we traded a new of our favorite stories (including a man who paid for his $20 bill in coins and a man trying to smuggle out a hot rotisserie chicken in his pants on my first day).
You’ve become an inspiration 🙂
Preordered the book, it arrived yesterday. At 4:30 am I found myself finishing it. Well done and congratulations.
I finally got my book yesterday, stayed up till wee hours reading it, finished it this morning. Damn…Damn…Damn….You are an excellent writer, YOU WILL NOT FAIL! I agree with previous posters, I’ve been reading you for so long that all of your sucess makes us proud of our friend, Steve, The Waiter. You have allowed us into your life, shared it with us and now the world. I loved your accent when I watched the video on the Today Show, reminds me of my family from up North (Yes, I’m a Southern Girl). You handled Matt wonderfully. Always know how proud we are of you! What happened with the girl at the end of the book? Rachel I think? Keep us posted! Again, can’t wait for the movie!
I DVR’d the Today show yesterday and watched it last night! You were awesome! Congratulations and it was nice to finally put a face with the blog 🙂
Keep up the good work.
I used to wait tables in Boca Raton, Florida and I had to deal with a lot of very cheap retired new york jews and they could be very condescending and rude. But, I also had my fair share of nice people too. I think I’m done waiting tables but never say never right?
Waiter…you will always be Waiter to me! I love how you are totally honest about how servers feel about their customers. It is those few asshats that really stick out in your mind. I think most of what you’ve experienced can be applied to most service type industries and people who act obnoxious and elitist just need to get their egos knocked down a couple of notches. Most of us are laughing at them behind their backs anyway, but it IS fun to see them get some of it back in a way that is subtle and funny.
Congratulations on all the press. Like Matt and Jo said earlier, I feel proud and happy for you like you were a “personal pal” of mine! If I saw you I’d run up to you and give you a big hug…maybe even give those cheeks a little squeeze! Good luck!
It actually looked like you made Matt Lauer nervous, like he had very bad customer manners and he was afraid you could figure it out. Very comical interview.
Great interview! I loved the snippet the posted on the page, i can’t wait to get the book (my borders didn’t have it on the 29th yet). Bravo, Waiter!
Cheap retired new york jews? Go back to Puerto Rico, Carmen.
And I’m sure this guy made Matt Lauer nervous
Hey, I just read the review of your book in the Wall Street Journal online – it popped up on the front page! Sounds like an entertaining account – I should check it out.
Congrats on the recent successes.
Hey, saw both pieces, and I liked the Cavuto piece best… she didn’t seem to blame waitstaff like Lauer was. I really wish either of them had asked what a good tip was, or questions about tipping, so people would know, instead of feign ignorance, like many frequent restaurant guests do. Because we ARE justified.
~Joe
Congrats on the success! I see your book is #49 on amazon. So happy for you!
Just got your book in the mail. I have been reading your blog for a couple years now so I am very excited to sit down with a glass of wine and read it! Congrats again and I am sure that it will be a good read – especially with all the press you are getting already!
Excellent book Waiter. I have always enjoyed your writing style. Best of luck and I hope you publish again soon.
I finally caved and ordered your book Wednesday (lasted a whole day after the book came out, talk about self-control! haha), got it today and read it in one sitting. Loved it, obviously, and you really can write! Of course I already knew that from the Waiter Rant but you actually wrote a book now.
Congrats, looking forward to a sequel (a serie maybe? Writer’s Rant? Ex-Waiter Rant?), I know this book won’t be your last and I look forward to hearing about your next project.
Congrats Waiter… you deserve all the sucess that comes your way.
Best wishes from Downunder 🙂
Nice to finally meet you, waiter. Good job. 🙂
I set my alarm to see you on the Today Show. Great job! I also ordered your book. I am looking forward to seeing it on the New York Times best seller list. 🙂
Man, you are a lot more young (and attractive) sounding than I thought. I always imagined you to sound very wise and deep voiced, but you really are just one of us. Awesome interview. You’ve done very well.
Um, OK, how about telling us when your next blog post with actual content will be released? Seriously, these self promotional posts you’ve been making are not the reason I read this blog.
You have a responsibility to entertain me for free, and I do not feel entertained.
Dude, you don’t look anything like I pictured! Congrats on being on the Today show! Looking forward to reading the book.
Congrats, Steve. I haven’t read the book yet, but I have a flight this week, so maybe I’ll pick it up in the airport.
You were great in the interviews, but I hate that both Matt Lauer and the Fox News lady said “Oh, people will be scared to eat out now,” instead of “Oh, maybe people who read this will treat waiters like human beings.”
I too, was disappointed that you didn’t demonstrate the thousand-yard-stare.
I love all of this: seeing you in the interview, watching this all get bigger and bigger. I hope things continue to go well. You’re getting some amazing press and I’m sure sales will be through the roof. I’m sure it’s a relief to NOT be reading the specials any more, but the book wouldn’t be as good as it is if not for your time in the trenches. Enjoy it all, you deserve it.
Congratulations—it’s well-deserved!
Dont let Matt Lauer try and say that its not okay to want to spit on peoples food! He obviously has no idea what it is like being a waiter! It is perfectly okay and normal to want to spit on rude guests food! And it is freaking RUDE to talk on your cell phone while ordering!
I love your blogs.I have followed recently from the first until this one; where I finally clicked the link to do the big reveal..(Didn’t want to spoil my fun)And I have one minor critique. Tells. Christopher Walken mentioned them, pantomimes. While watching your today interviews, I spotted a few, particularly when asked about worst case scenarios..BUSTED. You gave yourself up. I cooked for years, and I know we all have seen the realities of vicious BOH staff. Hilarious. That said, I agree about so many things..Your glasses; you look great in them. I can see the waiter stare in you,I have seen it through a window many times, although your size would betray your kindness and gentility. So..KUDOS! You are well written, the consummate professional, and put forth a great face for the service industry. Being raised by a waitress, and cooking for years I knew the thankless job you worked at as I read. I just hope the message reaches the yuppie scum and entitled masses before it is too late.
