Is there a significance to the number 800529 on the guest check?
ash wrote on 04/12/08 at 12:40 am :
is the cover going to be different for Australia?
Joan of Argghh! wrote on 04/12/08 at 5:37 am :
Yes, Ash. They’ll put the cover on upside-down for Oz.
Congrats, Waiter! Astounding achievement. When will we see you traveling with the irrepressible Mr. Bourdain?
I am sorry that all of my pithy comments, usually buried somewhere about 100 replies deep, have now shuffled off to even more obscurity.
This “change” you have effected has afforded me a rare opportunity to be in the top ten, and here I am with nothing…

I, too, have increased my tipping when in the USA. In Europe, I live a tip, but much lower (the waiters are paid more).

Oh, and congratulations!!!

It looks a lot like the cover of A Cook’s Tour by Bourdain. I look forward to reading it.

What a score getting the Bourdain quote- Is a really handsome cover.

But – the quotes! They’re the dessert!
Bookmaker wrote on 04/13/08 at 9:17 pm :
That’s a massive coup to get that endorsement of the book by Anthony Bourdain.
Maybe you can get a similar deal by Jamie Oliver (The Naked Chef) if the book comes out in the UK?
Hope you secure further book deals. Nice one!

I received an advance copy of your book and I am really enjoying it! I actually started reading the book before I ever knew you had a blog. The writing style is especially entertaining and easy to follow. Are you sure you’re a waiter that wrote a book, and not a writer that is waiting tables?
CS wrote on 04/14/08 at 1:35 pm :
Dude, congratulations! That’s a great cover, and a fabulous quote. Hope you make the Best Seller list!
Jeanne wrote on 04/14/08 at 5:09 pm :

Hey Waiter,
I’ve been following your blog for a long time now, so I’m really excited that your book will be coming to Singapore in August.
Congratulations on publication

I love Tony. I’ll have to get myself a copy.

Congrats, Waiter! Spent the last few days reading my way through your archives; great stuff as always. I can’t wait for your book release in July!
It’s sad that all the previous comments were lost though…it was always fun to read them
Tim wrote on 04/16/08 at 8:44 am :
Beautiful! Looking forward to the book.
All this time, you know, I thought the title of the blog was a bit of wordplay: “waiter rant” vs. “wait-errant” (as in “knight-errant”). I guess not?
JMG wrote on 04/16/08 at 12:39 pm :
I ordered your book and Anthony’s as well. Can’t wait.
Marcheline wrote on 04/16/08 at 4:40 pm :

Way to go – you rock, and A.B. is DA BOMB.

actually, waiter, I don’t think you’re cynical at all. I always thought you were amazingly empathic and even prudently optimistic once in a while.
Love that about you.

I love your work, because I do the same job you do. It is good to know that other people go through the things I do.
I’d love to get a hold of the book, but I’m not sure if it will be available in Europe or Estonia for that matter.
Cheers!
Big Sexy wrote on 04/21/08 at 10:26 am :
But will we ever see you Waiter? I agree with Claire above, you’re not cynical, you honest. I’m a long time reader and have already ordered my copy of the book.
Congrats!

Your book sounds like it’s going to be amazing. I was only looking for advice on how much to tip when I go to New York this weekend and stu, bled across this. I’m definately gona tip as much as I can afford to.
Unfortunately I’m not loaded or semi loaded, I get about £2 per hour which is prolly about $3.60 and I’ve maxed my card out to go here. But sure its all good.
Anyhoo, I pre-ordered your book on amazon too. It is definately a good read so far. I can’t get enough of it. Pity it wasn’t out in time for my long 7.25 hourflight.
Your sales will roar I’m sure and I really do hope that all goes well for you.

Since I read the book I am cooking more at home. My desire for dining in a restaurant has disappeared. Thank you! I don’t think Bourdain should be compared to anyone and visa versa. And if it is good what someone has to say it will sell anyway with comments or without.
In my 50years of eating in restaurants all over the world I have experienced the most, not being a professional waiter is the norm, and most of the time “waiters” don’t know what they are doing unfortunately. In Melbourne a know a few restaurants were the waiters know what they do, but it’s rare. It’s terrifying to go to a restaurant and not knowing what you get served, and how the service will be. So, I am better of eating at home.
