oh there is a Seinfield episode where exactly the same thing happens with renting a car. He reserves a car, is quoted a price, goes to get it, and they don't have it. "But isn't that the point of the reservation?"
haha

I had an experience with "Ballbuster" recently. The husband and I are signed up for the online movie rental so we get movies in the mail, it was a pretty sweet deal when it started. You get three movies, you can take 'em back for 5 free rentals a month, get new releases, and they'd send you three more before you even take the store movies back, it was great. but recently, they changed it and every movie you have in your possession now is treated as a mailer movie. BAH.
But they needed my husband's new card information, his expired, and the bank sent him a new one. IT screwed up our total of free rentals. we had all 5 when i checked online before i went to the store. got in the store, and the chick behind the counter tries telling me we have NONE, zip zilch free rentals. dude, i don't shell out 21.99 a month for the store to stiff me on FIVE free rentals. I stood there arguing with the girl, who i swear was barely 18 was giving me the "nothing I can do" thing. GRRRRR. I bit my tongue because of my kids, went outside, cooled off, and then went back in to explain the situation, pulled up the website on my phone (thank god for blackberries) showed her the web page where it said i still had all my rentals. she gave them to me. but my God, don't sit there and tell me I'm wrong.

Once, my dad had a bad experience w/ Ballbuster. They had recently gotten rid of late fees, and Dad took the opportunity to rent from them for the first time in ages. Sadly, they failed to mention the flippin' RESHELVING FEE, which was pretty much exactly the same, except it was implimented if you didn't reshelve the movie. Dad blew his top and basically went verbally postal. He whipped up a letter with the return address of "1234 NE FUCK YOU Lane". The whole letter was pretty much swearwords. The @&$*s threatened to take it to court but they didn't.

My last experience with Ballbuster was when the 17 year old manager told me that he didn't believe me when I told him that my previous rental was most definitely returned on time.

"So, you're calling me a liar?"

"If you say so."

I hit the roof and reminded him how the company had just announced 3 weeks earlier on national TV that they had been ripping off customers for late fees that they didn't incur and had settled the class-action lawsuit. Anyone who has rented from them up until at least 2000 (my last visit) knows that they do this. I started paying very close attention and going so far as to log each movie and the date/time it was returned. It was after this that this ass-clown pulled this on me.

I asked for the name and number of his regional manager. He gave it to me but smirked as if to dare me or think I wouldn't get in touch with him. I did. Later I got a call back telling me the situation had been resolved and if I returned, the new manager had been instructed to "reimburse all late fees I had incurred in the last 6 months in the form of store credit." All I can figure is that either the manager admitted to calling me a liar (at least in so many words) or they pulled the audio from that date. I caught them at a time when they had a zero-tolerance after having to re-pay millions. I was happy but never went back.

Sometimes honey doesn't work. There are certain people you just have to be a prick with. I have found that many times, it is some barely-out-of-high-school kid who was given just a little bit of power.
